Joke's On You! - laughing donkey painting by Debbie Grayson Lincoln

10 X 10 oil on panel
SOLD to a Florida Collector
Donkeys definitely have a sense of humor - no doubt about it. And the one down the road that brays every morning at 4:00 a.m. must really be laughing a lot!
We got through Thanksgiving here with a house full of family and laughter and good food and sharing of memories. My adorable brother and his even more adorable wife came all the way from North Carolina with their exquisitely adorable Labrador puppy. Daughter, Merideth,
and her family (and dog) joined the fun. Add my mother and her cute pooch - it was doggie Heaven - and they all got along with our two.
After a week of eating and playing I have to admit that I enjoyed the peace when they left...but missed them within an hour. I have just so much to be thankful for!
Granddaughter, Addison, took her turn at the easel, too, and displayed an aptitude to paint boldly and follow directions well. I can't wait until next summer when she visits again!

the Lord lift up his countenance upon you, and give you peace.

Violet Donkey Morning

8X8 oil on mounted canvas
SOLD
New take on donkey image - again limiting the palette and staying with the violets with a touch of cad yellow for the light. And for those who love turquoise, a bit of that, too!
I am spending time between painting, farm chores and trips to Dallas.
My mom has been in and out of the hospital following colon resection surgery to remove a tumor. After 3 weeks and 3 days, she is finally out of pain and beginning to eat and regain her strength. She is still in the  nursing re-hab facility, but I expect her to go home shortly where we will set up some kind of care-giving and day-to-day help for her. Right now our goal is to simplify her life and make her home easy to get around in. AND get her doggie back to her!
Kaydee is a Maltese/Poodle and weighs about 3 pounds. However, she has become queen of my house and has soundly told Trudy-the-German-Shepherd where to go and how long to stay there.
2 Samuel 7:10
And I will provide a place for my people Israel and will plant them so that they can have a home of their own and no longer be disturbed. Wicked people will not oppress them anymore, as they did at the beginning

# 15 Donkey Afternoon

5X7 Oil on mounted canvas $85
Includes shipping and insurance US
I like donkeys and several of my neighbors have them, though I have yet to understand why. They ARE cute. But most are so wild that they cannot be caught. Instead, some coercive game must be played in order to catch them to give them inoculations, etc. And don't even mention hoof trimming - it never happens. Fortunately donkeys are pretty reliably healthy and require little care.
One neighbor's mare gave birth this past spring to this adorable little  white foal. Only his ears are tipped black. Need less to say, I always have my camera ready when I drive by his place.
The above old donkey is all white, too. I don't know her name, but I know her owner simply enjoys seeing her in the pasture. Perhaps that's reason enough for keeping donkeys...
Matthew 6:22

# 6 Smart Enough to Get Out of Trouble - donkey painting

6X6 Oil on mounted canvas $100
Includes shipping and insurance US
Another limited palette study with a minimum of brushwork, too. My prime motive in these little paintings is to explore not only assorted color combinations, but also the use of a variety of brushes.
An excellent way that a "feeling stale" artist can challenge themselves is to step away from the familiar. Whether it be subject matter, painting mediums or grounds, color palette or paint delivery.
I have discovered that I really like a fine weave canvas mounted on MDF board and I love painting animals. I'm sticking with those 2 elements. But I am stepping out on a limb with different palettes and brushes (or palette knives) and brush stroke techniques.
Many artists get caught up in the details and find themselves painting with smaller and smaller brushes. Try using a brush 2 sizes larger than you are used to, and use it for the entire paintings! If you are used to using a flat sable brush, try a hog's hair bristle round instead - and don't get too caught up in the details!
1 Chronicles 28:19
“All this,” David said, “I have in writing as a result of the Lord’s hand on me, and he enabled me to understand all the details of the plan.”
