Three’s Company - abstract horse painting by Debbie Grayson Lincoln

18 x18 oil on Gallery wrap canvas
Available, ready to hang

Every now and then I am compelled to step out of my comfort zone, off the path, and do something different (like fly to visit my brother in North Carolina next month, all by myself...). But I digress..
I have tried to paint total abstracts, and I’m not very good at it...there just HAS to be something somewhat recognizable in my images.  So here you are...three horses. I may or may not continue along this trail, but for the moment my need to step off the path has been satisfied.

Psalm 16:11  You make known to me the path of your life; you fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.

End of the Trail - oil painting by western artist Debbie Grayson Lincoln

8 x 10 oil on panel
Available
We’ve all had one of THOSE days...one where nothing goes as planned and you run out of hours before you run through your to-do list.  Some things might be put off until tomorrow, but on a farm, many things must be done daily or someone or something will suffer.
This old horse has learned to be patient. He knows the routine and the fact that he has been appreciated all his life and now he is rewarded by his caretaker.  He is on the daily to-do list and will not be overlooked.

2 Chronicles 15:7  But as for you, be strong and do not give up, for your work will be rewarded.

Heifer Attitude - cow painting by western artist Debbie Grayson Lincoln

16 x 20 oil on canvas
Available
We raise red angus cattle and the bloodlines we use are notoriously known for their docility - a real plus when you are our age and don’t like being squished by cranky cows. After all, I don’t move quite a fast as I used to.
This is Totsy - a heifer that has quite an attitude. She is a calm individual, but also knows what she wants and expects to get it when she wants it.  She is also expecting her first calf in March, right about the time of her 2nd birthday.  She is also Abbey’s great granddaughter, making her 1/8 dairy and 7/8 Angus, a good combination for a Momma cow that we expect to keep for a long time.

Proverbs 15:18  A hot tempered person stirs up conflict, but the one who is patient calms a quarrel.

White Face Cow Memory painting by Debbie Grayson Lincoln

6x8 oil on linen
Available

We have raised cattle for 39 years and, like many folks, started out with “black baldies”, cows that were a Hereford/Angus cross. They were good momma cows, but we wanted more. So we stepped up to Simmentals, and I learned to artificially inseminate them, opening a whole world of genetic possibilities. The commercial demand for larger-than-average cattle subsided and we again changed direction and now we have black and red angus cattle (and milk cow, Sophie).
I love our current cows, but I do miss the white faces.
In today’s crazy world, there is hope for the future, and Isaiah reassures us:

Isaiah 11:6-7New International Version (NIV)

The wolf will live with the lamb,
the leopard will lie down with the goat,
the calf and the lion and the yearling[a] together;
and a little child will lead them.
The cow will feed with the bear,
their young will lie down together,
and the lion will eat straw like the ox.

Mother Love mare and foal in bluebonnets by western artist, Debbie Grayson Lincoln

6 x 8 oil on panel
Available
Today I was inspired by the parable of the sower, in the three Synoptic Gospels, Matthew 13:1-23, Mark 4:1-20, and Luke 8:4-15.
I recently purchased 4 pounds of bluebonnet seeds with the idea of sowing my entire driveway and front entryway with a spectacular display anticipated for Spring.  I quickly realized that 4 pounds of seeds would cover a good part of Erath County, so after getting my own needs for seeds taken care of, I ventured off in the Gator with my hoe and began planting bluebonnets in front of my neighbors’ gates. I covered at least a dozen entries as well as chatted with a neighbor I hadn’t seen in a while.  Half the others I knew well and let them know about my adventure.  The others I know, but don’t have their contact info, so I have to be satisfied imagining their pleasure next spring when the flowers surprise them with a display.
Just call me “Johnny Bluebonnet”.  There are many seeds to sow, and they aren’t all flowers....

Prodigal Cow - western cowgirl painting

8x10 oil on panel SOLD
We love RV-ing to the Rockies and one of the prettiest places we found near them has been Pine Dale, Wyoming.  Years ago we attended a re-enactment of a Rendezvous which is held yearly in Pine Dale. I acquired a number of excellent images that I have since used in many paintings.  I also became Facebook friends with a resident, and she has since shared even more images with me.
This is Julie Early and she is a true cowgirl. Her family has ranched in Wyoming for several generations and she is about as tough and true as they come.  That way of life is ending across this country, but those that continue it are our backbone and our history.
Don’t pass up the opportunity to thank a cowboy or cowgirl. You may not have another one.
