Haitian Man of Steel - Haiti Portrait by Debbie Grayson Lincoln

9 X 12 Oil on gessoed board $125
Includes shipping and insurance U.S.
Mike came into the studio this afternoon, viewed this painting and commented, "You're thinking about Haiti again." He is right. I am.
Haiti not only needs me, I feel the need to see it again. A number of things have changed since I was there last -  most notably a new administration - and I am curious if the promises have been kept and progress has been made. I do know I have seen more evidence of Haitian exports - especially art. Haiti is poor geologically speaking, but very rich in "people resources". Not only are Haitians hard working and crazily optimistic, but they also possess phenomenal artistic souls. Additionally they are spectacularly beautiful and healthy people, and the children are delights. What's not to love?
This gentleman worked tirelessly laying brick on the first project I attended, with very few breaks and in sun that would scorch a horned lizard. He also took communion with us the last day and gave himself to Christ. It was awesome.
And, yes, I want to go back.
2 Corithians 1:20 For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God.

Self Portrait - PJ and Me

5 X 6 Oil on Canvas board NFS
The Daily Painters are featuring a "theme day" once a month (the first Wednesday) on the Daily Painters Website. The first one we did was in October, and was "Orange Day". The assignment was simple: paint with orange. About half the daily painters participated making for a very colorful home page.
The theme for January is a self portrait. I have very few pictures of me alone - I am either with Mike and Georgia on a mountain top or with one of my horses. Technically, I guess the painting should be only of me, but I had to include at least one of my "loves" - and Mike and Georgia will forgive me for leaving them out, I'm sure!
February's theme will be "Valentines" and March is tentatively "Reflections". Personally, I like being forced into doing something artistically that I would not ordinarily do on my own. Sometimes I like the results, and sometimes I don't. I am just learning to do portraits, so this was a good challenge, though I am less than happy with me - the horse I like, though!
Psalm 125:2
As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the LORD surrounds his people both now and forevermore.

Two Faces of a Sixteen Year Old

This lovely child is my daughter when she was 16. I have used her for a model many times and I am generally happy with my painting results and usually know where I am headed as I paint. This painting, however, took an unexpected turn when the reflected face resulted in a diabolical countenance! If you have raised a child, you know what often happens in the teen aged years - rebellion. And to a certain degree, rebellion is a good thing - they HAVE to separate from us and find their own way. I am happy to report that 8 years later she is married and a joy to be around. AND a professional photographer. See her work here:

Little Boy on a Big Horse

This painting has an alternate title: "Up You Go". The child was a miniature of his daddy and he was some proud to be dressed like him AND riding a big horse! Sons idolize their fathers whether they are worthy or not. Most of the fathers I know are worthy - but I know a lot of cowboys, too!

Proverbs 4:1 Listen, my sons, to a father's instruction; pay attention and gain understanding.
