#43 Milk Maids

6 X 8 Oil on Board
Check with Artist for Availability
Hard to resist a cute child with a calf, isn't it? This is a fellow milk lover's daughter and heifer calf, Hazel.
Kids learn a lot, growing up on a farm, with the circle of life being one of the most important. A difficult experience to share with a child is the death of a beloved pet. On a farm, death is inevitable, but then again, so is life, and the promises it implies. Hazel's life is a promising one, for sure.
Psalm 85:8
I will listen to what God the Lord says; he promises peace to his people, his faithful servants— but let them not turn to folly.

#41 - You Are NOT the Boss of ME! - pouting calf portrait

6 X 6 Oil on Board

This is "Sushi-Moo" showing her classic pouting calf face. Hard to not smile at that face...
We had bad storms through this little part of Texas yesterday with a number of tornadoes instantly changing the direction of a number of people's lives. Six people are confirmed dead with as many still missing. Please continue to pray for the folks in Granbury and Cleburne as we begin to clean up and put lives back together.
Psalm 5:2
Hear my cry for help, my King and my God, for to you I pray.

#19 - Dudley With an Attitude - Jersey bull portrait

6X8 oil on mounted canvas $100
Includes shipping and insurance US
Meet Dudley. AKA Youstis. Owned by Oscar. Loaned to Karen. All live in Alabama.
If YOU lived in Alabama, the only way you could legally enjoy the delightful benefits and nutrition of fresh milk would be to raise the cow yourself. No where is it legal to sell it for human consumption.
In Texas, however, fresh (unpasteurized) milk is legal to sell, providing the dairy meets strict sanitary guidelines and gets certified. There are at least 3 dairies like this within 20 miles of me. Another way to enjoy fresh milk would be to join a farm co-op. Individuals purchase a share of the farms animals and/or produce. Not only do they share in the consumption of the produce, but they often share in the costs and actual production (hoeing, picking, milking, etc). In some states the legality of these co-ops have come under scrutiny. Fortunately in Texas, the rights of individuals to choose what nutrition they put in their bodies is still recognized.
Update on Aunt Abbey: As I reported earlier, we sold both of Aunt Abbey's 5 month old bull calves, and the same day we purchased 2 more babies from the sale barn. Both calves immediately got serious diarrhea (scours), though, partly because this cow's milk is about 33% cream - too rich for baby tummies. So I decided to milk the cow myself, separate the the cream, and then bottle feed the calves for a couple weeks until their digestive systems mature. As a result, I am tied to the farm, milking twice a day - which means clean the cow and equipment twice a day. AND feed the calves twice a day, plus in-between-feeding of electrolytes. AND then find someone to help consume all this EXTRA milk and cream!!!! I am freezing some of it, but Abbey makes 2 1/2 gallons of milk a day, 1/3 of it cream. The calves are only getting a 1 1/2 gallons right now. The fridge is full. But the CALVES are doing well, and that's good.....I'm tired.
Deuteronomy 8:18
But remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your ancestors, as it is today.

Sofie's Choice - Jersey heifer oil painting by Debbie Grayson Lincoln

6 X 6 Oil on Gessoed MDF board $100
Includes shipping and insurance
CALLING ALL FARM ANIMALS!!!!
Starting sometime in January (after my next grandbaby is born!) I want to challenge myself to paint 50 animals in 50 days. I and a number of my artist friends have done this to help ourselves get into a productive habit of working daily. I took some time off this year and did not paint a thing for over 3 months. I was productive in other ways, but I missed painting and I thought this challenge would help.
That's where YOU come in. I have painted my own cows, horses, dogs and assorted feathered friends so many times. I know every wrinkle and every beak. Fellow artist Carol Nelson asked for photos of people to paint and produced 100 portraits in 100 days. Laurie Pace painted 100 horses in 100 days. I am asking for assorted farm animals. I prefer head shots, well lit naturally (NOT with a flash), and large.
Send them to my e-mail address WITH your name and permission to use ("I grant Debbie Lincoln permission to paint the attached image of my animal and use it on her blog").

Of course the paintings will be for sale, but you are under no obligation to purchase them. You CAN copy the image and use them however you'd like, though.
