Duck Duck

16 X 20 Oil on Canvas

$300

This is a mallard duck that visited my in-laws pond several years ago. I don't think he was wild - he didn't act like it. He stayed in the middle of the pond when we came around, but he didn't fly off, so I suspect he was raised by people. There is no way I could capture his iridescent glowing feathers, but I tried - he was magnificent. The hens of this species are quite plain by comparison and I raised one years ago before I was married. In fact, my then husband-to-be gave her to me as a duckling for Easter. The fact that I lived in a dormitory did not deter me from accepting the gift. The duck lived in a large cardboard box and we let her swim in the bathtub down the hall. I raised that duck for 2 months in the dorm until I went home for the summer and turned her loose at White Rock Lake in Dallas where she happily joined others of her species. I really doubt that the powers that be were ignorant of the fact that a duck was being housed on the 4th floor of Hulen Dorm at Texas Tech, but for some reason she was never confiscated, nor was I admonished. Sometimes I do believe I have lived a charmed life....
Matthew 24:32 "Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out, you know that summer is near.

Studio Update: Two large walls are up, windows were delivered (during gusty 50+ MPH winds which made my heart do flip flops), we have tracked down the brick manufacturer that made the original bricks and found some still in stock, decision was made about bathroom window (we will use glass bricks), and we will use blown in insulation instead of fiberglass. We are seeing progress.

Thief

Thief
6 X 8 Oil on Masonite $100

I actually got to paint a bit this afternoon. This little chipmunk is a quick study with an intention on putting him in a larger painting.

I worked on this other painting, too. Mike and I visited my birth place (Baton Rouge) last summer and I got some wonderful photos of plantations and Louisiana landscapes. These are old homes on LSU's museum grounds. I call the painting "Fixer Uppers" and will add more details when this first layer dries a bit.

Wild Thing

20 X 24 Oil SOLD
I am not really a wildlife artist, but this stunning tiger demanded to be put on canvas. He was lounging in the sun at the Ft. Worth Zoo last year, when my daughter snapped his photo.
Sometimes I pity the animals locked up in zoos, but only rarely. Large cats spend 95% of their time lounging in the wild and the rest is spent hunting and eating (and reproducing). Of course they don't hunt in the zoo, but the rest is pretty much the same! And seeing their beauty inspires folks to become conservation minded and help protect the places where they are still found wild.
Genesis 8:1 But God remembered Noah and all the wild animals and the livestock that were with him in the ark, and he sent a wind over the earth, and the waters receded.

Got Your Goat

Sometimes I think I live in goat country - not horse country. The chubby little Boer goats and their crosses have become extremely popular around here - seems as if everyone has a herd. This particular little nanny was very friendly when I stopped the car next to her pasture. She was one of about 60 goats that came running and baa-ing through the fence to check on me. And just like my horses, when they discovered that I had no food for them, they quickly lost interest and wandered off. Much like some children I know!

This little 6 X 8 oil painting on unstretched canvas will be up for auction on eBay in 1 week or you can buy it directly from me for $50. dglincoln@embarqmail.com

Cow Have Secrets, Too

I painted this painting before my recent surge and commitment to improvement through practice. I'm going to paint it again today and show the difference.
I titled it "Cows Have Secrets, Too" and I used it on a birthday card last year for my Mom. The inside said something like "It's no secret that you are a having a birthday! Have a GREAT one!"
Proverbs 11:13 A gossip betrays a confidence, but a trustworthy man keeps a secret.

PJ and Me

SOLD

At first glance, this painting appears totally abstract - but there IS an image. Can you see it? I was sitting on a fence looking down at my horse, PJ, when I took the photo that inspired it. Now can you see it?

Things aren't always what we perceive them to be upon first viewing. I have come to call several people "friend" who at first meeting didn't seem to be "friendship material". Digging deeper is sometimes worth the effort....

Proverbs 27:9 Perfume and incense bring joy to the heart, and the pleasantness of one's friend springs from his earnest counsel.

Dear Little Deer

SOLD

Rocky Mountain National Park is full of deer and elk so tame they wander everywhere - like pets. This little mule deer doe was in our camp one morning and casually grazed for 10 minutes while I walked all around her snapping her photo. She was fearless and evidently felt totally safe. I pray often for a life like that.

Job 21:9 Their homes are safe and free from fear; the rod of God is not upon them.

Halfway Caught

I go to a lot of rodeos both to watch and enjoy and to gather material for paintings. I am almost always guaranteed some great photos and ideas - especially when there are animals involved.
This calf was in the middle of a "mugging" - no someone wasn't trying to steal his wallet! Two cowboys were chasing him around an open arena - with one assigned to rope him and the other intent on grabbing him, throwing him to the ground and tying his feet. Not many more rules than that. Rope him however you can and get him to stay on the ground for a pre-determined length of time. All within 60 seconds or less.
Proverbs 15:17Better a meal of vegetables where there is love than a fattened calf with hatred.

Animals are fun to paint, but difficult for me. We have 3 white kitties and I can't tell them apart anymore. This is the liveliest one though - a 6 month old female that was given to us (along with her brother) by my daughter's sister-in-law. She followed me around the front yard a couple days ago while I was photographing my horse (for the millionth time) and insisted that I pay attention to her - until she paused to scratch an itch.

Both animals of the earth and man were created by God on the sixth day. The Bible says we were to "rule" over them, and most theologians have interpretted that to mean "care for and use wisely." My life would be very sad without my critters in it.

Genesis 1:31 God saw all that he had made, and it was very good.

SOLD
My daughter has a dog named Walker. He's half Cocker Spaniel and half King Charles Cavalier. He looks mostly King Charles, and he's a little dog, but boy, does he know how to play AND he can swim all day. We took him camping with us on the Frio River 2 summers ago. Merideth and I snorkeled and Walker swam with us. And swam. And swam. I do believe that dog would swim until he drowned, if we let him. I painted this when we got home, showed it in a gallery in New York and sold it. I had to promise Merideth that I would paint another one for her - guess we need to go camping again!
